Entry Requirments
International Undergraduate Students
Entry Requirements:
Year One Entry
tudents from 12-year education systems are normally required to have graduated from High School. Applicants for all degree programmes should have achieved a minimum GCSE Grade B (or equivalent qualification) in Mathematics. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the course.
In addition to the University entrance requirement, international students whose first language is not English or whose entry qualification was not obtained in the medium of English are required to provide evidence of their proficiency in English.
The minimum English language requirement is:
*IELTS 5.5, with the writing band no less than 5.0 or
*TOEFL (paper based) 525 + TWE no less than 4.0 or
* TOEFL (computer based) 196 + TWE no less than 4.0
* TOEFL (IBT) 71 (minimum 17 in any element)
Year Two Entry
Students from 12-year education systems are normally required to complete a foundation year before entering the second year of an undergraduate programme. Students from 13-year education systems or on recognised foundation courses are not usually required to complete a foundation year. Direct entry applicants should have achieved:
* GCE A Level: BBB (or equivalent qualification)
* IB: 32
Minimum English Language Requirement
*IELTS 6.5 with the writing band no less than 6.0 or
* TOEFL (paper based) 575 + TWE no less than 4.5 or
* TOEFL (computer based) 232 + TWE no less than 4.5
* TOEFL (IBT) 88 (minimum 19 in any element)
The minimum English Language requirement for BA English Language and Applied Linguistics and BA English Language and Literature is:
* IELTS 7.0 with the writing band no less than 6.5 or
* TOEFL (paper based) 600 + TWE no less than 5.0 or
* TOEFL (computer based) 250 + TWE no less than 5.0 or
* TOEFL (IBT) 100 (minimum 21 in any element)

International Postgraduate Students
We consider applicants solely on the basis of their academic merits. Normally, applicants should hold a good first degree with at least a second class honours in the first division (2:1) or an equivalent qualification.
MSc International Business: The Degree is not designed for candidates with a first degree in business. A Bachelor's degree in non-business related subject (Business Studies and Applicable Finance graduates may not apply).
MSc International Management: applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in a related subject, such as management, business studies, marketing, economics, accounting and finance.
MSc Finance and Investment: applicants for this MSc must have previously completed some undergraduate modules in Accounting and Finance.
MSc Tourism Management and Marketing: is open to graduates of all subjects.
MA International Communications Studies (with French/German/Spanish/Japanese/Chinese): is open to graduates of all subjects.
MA Contemporary Chinese Studies: Any discipline. Not designed for students with a first degree in Chinese Studies.
MA Interpreting and Translation, Mandarin and English: is open to graduates who have a first degree (BA) in any subject and very strong English and Chinese language skills. Applicants with English as a second language should have a good undergraduate degree. Applicants with Chinese as a second language should have a degree at Upper Second level or equivalent and a level of competence in written and spoken Chinese equivalent to Advanced level HSK. Applicants may be required to attend for interview and aptitude tests before admission to the programme if their linguistic and intellectual suitability for the programme is not apparent from their qualifications.
MA Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching: requires a minimum of two years of approved teaching experience (or equivalent). Applicants for MA Applied Linguistics, MA Applied Linguistics with World Englishes pathway and MA Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching and must have a first degree (BA) in a relevant subject (English Studies, Linguistics, etc.).
MA Global Governance: is open to graduates of all subjects.
In addition to the University entrance requirement, applicants whose first language is not English or entry qualification was not obtained in the English medium are required to provide evidence of their proficiency in English.
For Entry onto Masters Programmes
Minimum English Language Requirement
* IELTS 6.5 with the writing band no less than 6.0 or
* TOEFL (paper based) 573 + TWE no less than 4.5 or
* TOEFL (computer based) 230 + TWE no less than 4.5
* TOEFL (IBT) 88 (no less than 19 in any element)
The minimum English Language requirement for MA Interpreting and Translation, Mandarin and English is:
* IELTS 7.0 with no less than 6.0 in any element
* TOEFL (paper based) 600 + TWE no less than 4.5 or
* TOEFL (computer based) 240 + TWE no less than 4.5 or
* OEFL (IBT) 100 (minimum 19 in any element)
For Entry onto Premaster Programme
Minimum English Language Requirement
* IELTS 5.5 with the writing band no less than 5.0 or
* TOEFL (paper based) 525 + TWE no less than 4.0 or
* TOEFL (computer based) 196 + TWE no less than 4.0
* TOEFL (IBT) 71 (no less than 17 in any element)
The minimum English Language requirement for MA Interpreting and Translation, Mandarin and English, MA Applied Linguistics, MA Applied Linguisitics with World Englishes pathway and MA Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching is:
* IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.0 in any element
* TOEFL (paper based) 550 + TWE no less than 4.0 or
* TOEFL (computer based) 210 + TWE no less than 4.0 or
* TOEFL (IBT) 79 (minimum 17 in any element)
